Using an acronym as a brand name is one of the biggest no no's in marketing, simply because the result is usually cryptic, low on positive connotations, often miselading & usually not particularly emoitve. This is especially the case if it forms a word that has preconceived perceptions. Imagine for a second if Google called themselves ISES Internet Search Engine (with an S on the end). Sure your acronym means a nice fury thing (though many hate cats), but what's that got to do with the benefit of your brand? Great brand names connote the benefits of the brand Lexus is LeXuS because is is closely linked to LuXuriouS in the consumers mind. Brand linquistics shows that if you keep the frist & lsat lrettes of a wrod the smae poelpe can slil raed waht is wirtetn. People have internal understandings of letters & groups of letters that affect their understanding of your brand. If you aim to sell this to consumers, I think you've got to go back to what are your key insights that you have on why consumers would want this (above alternatives) & build a brand from the benefit you are trying to deliver rather than the technology behind it.
I know there will be reasons for use of the name, but my view is that it just throws you. I quickly looked at everything & your website & am still a little lost as to what your actually selling. I might get it with time, but the point is, with the consumer you don't have time. If they don't get it instantly you're no where (or worse off than you could be) and that attitude should start with the brand name.

makeasplash wrote: Jul 31 2008 11:30 pm I agree with Roger. However, I think the cat icon would be memorable and useful for many purposes. I suggest keeping just the icon and use the "Cordless Advanced Technology" tagline and lose all the rest. It's way too busy and confusing.

Frank Hogestijn wrote: Oct 15 2008 8:25 pm I do have a dect myself. Oldfashioned but reliable. What I realy need is to be connected directly to people/companies I would like to. Instead of dialing long numbers I would like the machine that to do for me, while the only thing I would like to do is press a picture of a person or a businesscard of a company on my phone which should be no larger than a watch and is connected to my wireless network in my office/house/car. Ideally i should be able to scan/receive business cards on my (dect)phone-computer and be able to import them into my system. The only function the watch should have is to scroll, call and end the call and maybe an emergency call to alert the police when something is not OK. In this case it should also have a GPS.

normandesign wrote: Oct 29 2008 6:59 pm I agree with Roger, names are dangerous things to play around with. One of the reasons most cars have fictitious names and most products have numbers. I even remember reading about a carname that seemed fictitious in English, but that had a great similarity with a Spanish word with a negative connotation. The car was a success in English speaking and non Spanish speaking countries but bommed in the Spanish speaking countries.
And I understand the makers like the cat connection, but ACT-iq would have sounded just as good, although is sounds almost like attic.
I wonder if a name like DECT Puck, looking at the shape, might have been more appropriate.
Another point to remember with CAT and yellow, is that CAT in the US is short for Caterpillar the heavy duty machinery company and their colour is yellow. This could get you in trouble, even if you write CAT with purple. But Caterpillar writes its name in Black.
